Anyone know anything about 1200 speedo's
« on: February 14, 2016, 10:15:23 AM »
Hi gang.
The weather brightened up enough today to get out for a ride with Mrs. Tony on her new Street 750 and me on my R1200. When I got it out and fired it up I noticed that she's started showing 20mph at a stand still and the Rev counter shows 1K with the ignition off! After an hour or so out, the speedo is now showing 5mph and the rev counter about 250rpm with the ignition off.
Any suggestions?

I'm guessing you have electronic indications for both speedometer and tachometer ??

First thing I would do, is to find out what fuses control these and remove them for  15 minutes or so then reinstall them and see what you get for indications .

I don't know if this applies to the R1200 bikes or not, but with the R1150's, after you reinstall the fuses, with the key in the ON position, open the throttle completely to the stop two times slowly .

Hope it's a simple fix .

There's a site for oilhead bikes, R1150R.net, they have sub forums for the 1150, 1200, R1200LC, Rockster, GS, R NineT .

Free to join and quite helpful, solved what few issues I've had with my R1150R

Cheers Bob, I'll give it a try, and have a butchers on the R1150R.net site. Mine's a 2013 so its the analogue dials with electronic rather than cable drives, bloody typical it starts playing up a few weeks before I'm planning to chop her in for a new R1200RS.

Bob,

I'll translate for you.  "have a butchers" means to "have a look"

Although widely used outside London it's cockney rhyming slang  "butchers hook"   rhymes with  "look"

Don't worry if it makes no sense !

I never would have guessed that translation !!!

Now, I'm sure that ' I'm planning to chop her in for a new R1200 ', means trade the bike in .

Isn't it wonderful a people divided by a common language !!! ;)
