What is the blue part in the red circle called?

Mine doesn't have a black lid, but is open with some clear brown jelly like stuff in it. I'm guessing that is not good.

it's called the accessory power connector.

As to what plugs in, and whether you should use it - opinions vary. The black goop is an MPO modification, I would simply ignore it.

There is one pin on that connector, it's the one with the red wire, it's ' hot ' all the time, as 12vdc to it all the time, regardless of the ignition switch position .

It would be better if this is covered up so you can't a short to ground, if some metallic object should contact it .

No it is not fused on a stock bike  :o

I don't wanna start a new thread but I have another grey hair I need sorted out.

A wire has come loose. It looks like a ground connection and is bolted to the underside of my gas tank. I cant figure out where it has to be connected. Its bolted to the tank right next to all the relays.

If the wire is brown, it's definitely a ground wire. Is there a terminal of some sort on the end of the wire? There should be no, nada, zero wires connected to the fuel tank. Are you completely sure this wire is / was actually bolted to the tank? Can you post up a photo or two?

That looks like a mod by a previous owner perhaps they thought the tank need a static earth which it wouldn't get through the rubber mounts. Not an unreasonable thought for someone who might have worked in the petrochemical industry where static earthing is a common precaution.

The threaded tab is reckoned to be something used to suspend the tank from while painting as evidenced by a strip of top coat paint missing on the tab.

Agree with Barry. The threaded stud was an attach point for hanging the tanks during OEM paint application. Could be a PO subscribed to the thought that no threaded stud should go un-nutted.

May I chime in ?
If I look correctly at your pictures, the double coil seems to be in a box. And this box looks like an interference suppressor for the radio. It seems this bike was sold to authorities first...
If I'm right, maybe grounding the tank was part of the interference suppression.
Or maybe I'm just dreaming aloud...

Small update.

I'v finally got the time to mess some more with my bike. Got the whole fairing off, and removed the wiring harness as it was a clusterfuck under the tank. I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking, but looks like he was in a hurry when he put the harness back in after taking it out for whatever reason.

The earlier mentioned ground, that was bolted to the tank, was not the only one. It seems the previous owner has gone absolutely "groundmad" there are ground cables and ground straps connected to everything. I have no idea what is meant to be there from the factory and what is added later.

But thats a problem for the me of tomorrow  ;)
