Push rods
« on: October 03, 2015, 07:17:27 PM »
I'm ready for reassembly and note that the pushrods don't have an open hole through which I can blow air, and this differs from some other bikes of other marques on which I've done top end work, so I'm wondering if there's a spring loaded ball valve or something that needs more push than my breath supplies to open?  Should I be able to blow air through the pushrod of an R65?

Save your breath, Snowman, you'll just burst your eardrums.

All the BMW 'music stuff' ie: valve train, gets cared for with the oil that is pumped up and through the two top cylinder/head studs and on to the rocker assemblies. So do be careful with correctly fitting those small o-rings and if you elect to add just a smear of sealer twix case and cylinder base, allow no sealer to be squeezed into the oil passage area.

Have fun and don't blow it!

Montmil,

Thanks very much.  I take this to mean that it is not a problem that I can't blow air through the pushrod, let me know if I'm misunderstanding, please.

The pushrods are solid, no passageway in them, the oil for the top end comes up around two of the long cylinder studs and the cylinder and then through the rocker arms .
