1979 R65: Super Battery

I'm thinking of relocating the battery... Not sure where but, I want a battery that can be placed anyway possible (upside down, flat, in an angle, the smaller the better) Possibly relocating it flat under or near the oil pan or gear box.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Check Ballistic batteries EVO2 batteries.  They are $$$ but extremely small and will perform at any angle even upside down.  We have them in our R65, Laverda 668 and two dirt bikes with good results.

This topic has been well thrashed here in the R65 asylum in the not too distant past.

Scroll down and browse through the Tech Section. Recent lengthy thread on these hi-tech batteries. You'll find the good, bad and sometimes ugly experiences of some member patients.

If you don't want to go the expensive Lithium route, normal AGM and Gel batteries will usually mount in any orientation except up side down.

I have 12 cell Ballistic EVO2 on my R100.  Seems to work fine.  I have mine bolted to the underside of my after market saddle.  I have saved 16lb in weight with just the removal of the wet battery.  I have also removed the battery tray in its entirety.  See lower thread that Montmil mentions

Steve, care to share pics of the setup?  I had a look under my seat and may use the plastic tray where the tool kits
