R65-R65LS Carb Differences
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:50:21 PM »
I was looking through the Bing manual I got about 4 months ago, looking for an answer for a posting on Boxerworks, about high altitude operation, and I was looking at the section about what jets, and needles are used on the R65, and found that the R65LS is jetted differently than a standard R65. The slides, main jet, needle jet, jet needle, idle jet, and float bowl are all different on the LS. I thought they were all the same ! From the looks of the correction chart for temperature and altitude, I should be using different main jets for hot weather operation.

Are the carbs the same part#(s)
Are the specs for the same carbs on the same engine just diff' body & frame.
I wonder as to the weight to HP ratio also for a R65 vs R65LS.
I would compare the constants against the variables.
That is if I weren't so busy with my recently aquired bike. Got parts laying all over the place. And gotta get it back together to get it inspected for registering it for new title.

The carbs are a different part number : 64/32/335 and 336. There are 2 different sets of flat-top carb part numbers, 5 different sets for a standard 'dome top' carb, one set for the LS, and 5 different sets for the R65RT. So I guess if you are buying a set or just one carb for your R65, you need to know what you're getting, or it may lead to problems running correctly. According to  the altitude / temperature correction chart, I should be using jets for riding at 5000 ft elevation for the hot season here in Phoenix (density altitude).
