r65ls starting issues
« on: August 16, 2014, 02:51:21 PM »
Finally got the r65ls put together that I bought in pieces a few years ago. I've got good compression and spark, a new battery, and fresh fuel, but doesn't want to start. Starter turns over fine. All seems in order. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Are plugs wet or dry to indicate whether cylinders are getting fuel or not.

I was just thinking that and checked. They seem dry, as if not getting fuel. There is fuel in the carb bowls. Had the carbs rebuilt and put fresh fuel in. What am I missing? Something obvious I'm sure...

Been sitting for awhile, right? Drop the float bowls and confirm the small "jet" passages that feed the enrichener circuit fuel reservoirs are not clogged with fuel varnish.

If you have compression and spark, that's two of the three biggies. Also confirm the idle air adjust screws are set to your LS's specs.

I feel your pain - mine will not start either - but I think I know why.

From the list of really dumb things that have happened to me.

Check to make sure that a family of mice have not taken up long term residence in your airbox.

There is a variety of was in my country that makes a mud castle for its young to grown up in - BMW exhaust pipes that have not been used for a while are prime real estate for them.

However, my money is on clogged float bowl jets.

Thanks all. Just needed a bit of a cleaning as suggested. I'm on the road!
