Rear drum brake arm question

In the image is my drum brake arm. in it is the ferrel which picks up the rod from the foot pedal. My question is should the ferrel rotate in the arm to take up any variation in angle associated with the pedal and rod?
Mine does not but before I put any excessive pressure on it ....should it move or not? :-/

Yes, it should move .

Lube it up with a light oil, then put a #2 Phillips screwdriver in the hole and work it loose .

Don't beat on it, it's cast aluminum, won't take too much abuse .

Also, when you reinstall it, the gap in serrated end, goes on the brake shaft with the dimple in the shaft in the gap on the arm .

Thanks Bob it is in a bath of Gt85 at the moment getting right good soaking, I will be gentle with it! Gentle and persistent pressure works every time!

If what BMW refers to as a "Pin" remains a too snug fit after your soaking efforts, I might suggest using a small amount of fine-cut valve lapping compound on the 'pin' to smooth the I.D. of the aluminum lever. Should not take more than a very few revolutions to develop a satisfactory working clearance.

of course if you had threaded the brake rod through the lever whilst still attached to the final drive, when you bolted the final drive up, you would have a saved yourself a little bother......

If it was working properly when you sold it to me I would not have had to straighten the connecting rod... ergo it no longer fits/functions.

And gents it is now loose with the application of persistent pressure and GT85.

Monte your suggestion is taken aboard but I am thinking that once clean there will be sufficient free-play for proper function
