Make sure your new seat has the correct height rubber bumpers in the correct positions.

BMW makes at least 3 different thicknesses, as I recall - 5mm, 10mm & 16mm.

This is the early seat:

11      Support          H=16        2      09/1980      52531232904     $2.80
12      Bump stop      H=10        9      09/1980      52531236128      $2.80

and the later seat:

07      Bump stop      H=10   2      09/1980      52531236128    $2.80
08      Support          H=16   2      09/1980      52531232904      $2.80

Prices are estimates only.  I don't know of anyone that has actually ordered parts from the microfiche provider!

Thought I'd close the loop on this.

I bought an '84 seat and cowl. They fit without a problem on my '79. The hinges line up and the rubber feet rest on the frame rails.

I don't have the fender installed, the rear tray mounts to the fender, correct? The fiche only has one fender PN, so I think that'll be fine.

I also got a '79 version tool tray. Since it's taller, the seat won't close, butI don't see any reason I can't cut it down to fit. This tray was a freebie, and has a big hole in the bottom that was repaired with duct tape, so I don't have a problem with "modding" it.

Be sure to buy or fab the simple metal strap that captures the bolts as they pass through the fender. It's about 0.375" wide x length to fit. That may be it listed as #13... maybe not. The back-up strap prevents the mounting bolts from pulling through the plastic fender.

It shouldn't be a problem mounting the box to the fender.
I don't know the details, but it should make itself obvious to you.
You may have to drill a couple of holes in the fender - I don't know.
