so a late update but...2.5 weeks ago I got the dynacoil in the mail and a friend and I installed it without any great difficulty along with new spark plugs and plug wires. Crossed fingers and went to fire it up, sounded a little better but still no go. Fiddled a bit, put the old plugs back in, seemed happier. Went to autozone and bought a gap tool and set the plug gap and then retried and she sounded even better. Then cleaned out the carbs a little and she's been happier since.
I'm sure I still have a million things to do to get her running really healthy and perfect but I'm learning and she's back on the road.
