Rubber valve cover gaskets .

I remember a few members here mentioning they have rubber valve cover gaskets on their R65 .

Where did you get them ?

Both valve covers are starting to leak on my '82 LS .

I have had real good luck with these. They are a little spendy but over the life of my bike I figure they will pay for themselves. Having ridden a Triumph before I figured I could stop any oil leaks but when I tried my favorite sealant on the paper valve cover gaskets the leaks got worse. So far with the silicone ones no leaks.

I've got a set on the '81 R65, put them on about 20 years ago, couldn't find the receipt where I got them from .

Hello Guys,
While we are at it, I'm puzzled by an oil leak problem.
I've changed the piston rings on my '82 R65, and since then, the right rocker cover is leaking oil.
As I had a couple of new gaskets, I put one in and still a leak.
so I inspected the gasket's planes and found nothing.
So here I am. do you have any idea of what's wrong ? Should I glue the gasket ?

The reason I put rubber gaskets on my '81 R65, in 1992, is that they developed leaks there .

I had the cylinder heads overhauled in '98, severe valve recession, by San Jose BMW .

Got a call from the shop that I had performing the work on the heads, machinist said the top of the head, where the valve cover mates to, was warped and needed to be machined to true it up .

Machinist told me that it was a common problem on the airhead BMW's .

Take that for what it's worth .

The one thing you doan't want to do, is to overtighten the nut at the center of the valve cover, it's not uncommon to pull the stud out of the cylinder head if it's over tightened .
