Flushed the tank out and found this
« on: October 30, 2009, 12:59:29 PM »
I carried out the annual tank cleaning we discussed a little while back. It was not too bad at all there was only a few drops of water and a little sediment.

I noticed this bracket welded to the rear of the tank opposite side to the tap.  It's threaded M6. Anyone know what it's for? The only thing I can think of is maybe an earthing strap or wait a minute the missing paint could be a clue. Is it for hanging the tank while it's painted.

I checked both of my R65's today, and they look the same .

Looks like it's used for painting .

That freakin' bracket brought blood on more than one occasion. I Dremeled it off and dressed down the flashing.

For painting my '83 R65, i shot the tunnel with the tank was suspended by the wire bail. I then placed the tank on a 2x4 sawhorse for the exterior work.

I hope I have one, as I'll need to paint my tank one of these days.  My knees are wearing the paint out.  I also want to put knee pads on it afterward.

Thanks guys. I'm not missing anything then. My first thought was that it was for fitting an anti-static earthing strap something I was very familiar with when I worked in the chemical industry. I checked out the parts fiches and there is nothing shown.

Let me add that the bracket is situated differently on the pre '81 than on the the post '81, which I discovered when I changed my previous tank with another from a '79.

As the bracket was in the way on the "new" tank I had to saw it off.

There must be a factory guy that worked in the paint shop that can lend a comment on this. One of them must have an R airhead and see these comments.
