replacing my clutch cable

So I am in the middle of replacing a broken clutch cable. Do I have to split the engine and transmission to get the metal stopper piece out? does any one have any tricks for this?

Do you have your new cable yet? It is a simple slide the old cable out and slide the new cable in job. There is nothing to unbolt.

You only need to loosen the adjuster at the handle bar all the way, pull forward on the clutch arm to get the cable off of the arm .

That's all there is to it .

studebaker,   You did not mention the model year of your R65. That's always helpful info for those responding to your questions.

Check the forum section, "R65 Technical FAQs/Procedures" for a pdf format owners manual for 81-84 R65s. Should be somewhere on page 2.

After installing your new clutch cable, the clutch cable adjustment procedure begins at the transmission end of the cable. For proper operations, follow the manual's guide. It's considerably different than most other MCs but important to the like of your clutch and the cable itself.

You'll notice a specification for the exposed cable length... Snip a piece of coat hanger wire to the specified length and use this as a hi-tech measuring tool.
