Gear shift lever
« on: July 13, 2012, 11:19:33 AM »
I recently purchased some nice new boots with a padded flap for the gear shift; unfortunately there is insufficient space to get my boot under the shift. It is not immediately obvious how to adjust the clearance, as I see no splines on the shaft nor threads on the connecting rod.

Anyone know how?

The foot rest is adjustable, there are serrations on both parts .

Loosen up the bolt and adjust it, to where it works for you .

Thanks, Bob, I knew it had to be something simple.

Couldn't an adjustment be made by shortening or lengthening the threaded rod ends?

If you have that type of shift linkage you can .

The '78-'81 model year bikes had a fixed length wire rod shift linkage from the factory, no adjustments possible .

Don't know what model year bike the original poster has, so I assume it's the earlier version .

If you have the "wire" it needs to be replaced with something adjustable if you desire to fine-tune it.
