Hummmmm maybe there is a difference. All I know is the bolt holes aligned perfectly...the angle of the lens looks right...it fit snug and tight. I was ready to shim it with a 2x4 in order to double the size of the trail light. Heck pressure treated wood and chrome look good together. But that was not necessary. That big fat R65 tail light fit good....I was happy.

I used to think there was a difference in rear fenders, if for no other reason than for short wheelbase /5 and the rest of the long wheel base models. But a search of the MAX parts fiche said they were all the same.

But beyond that, Years ago I swapped out small for large tail lights and they were a direct swap. No fiddling required!

We still pals, wirewrkr?  ;)

swb and lwb used the same fender.
the subframe was the only difference  as far as that part is concerned.
The reason you see only 1 part number listed is because the newer fender superceded the old one and they eliminated the old one eventually.  sheesh, I'll take a pic tomorrow.

If you do replace the tail light bulb, make sure it's the short type like the one that came out, if the bulb is too close to the plastic lens, it will melt it, as the light is on continuously whenever the bike is running .

I was curious about a previous post on the risk of melting the lens as I couldn't see how a 10W bulb would be a problem. This makes sense now as Bob says it's the small (UK type 245 10W BA15s)  bulb that's needed which has a 19mm glass dia rather than the larger 25mm dia one used in most stop/tail bulbs. I don't think the larger type is commonly available in the UK as a single element 10W bulb in anycase.

No problems swapping tail lights - fenders are all the same.

In reviewing the photos I took in Luckenbach (TX) of Scotty's new sidecar rig, He has a smooth, rounded contour fender -possibly steel- whereas my two R65s have plastic rear fenders with a boxy, molded-in-place tail light mount, turn signal attach and license plate area. Not all same.

Starting with the /5, all airheads came with plastic fenders. If his has metal and it's newer than 1970, those are custom fenders!

"Superbright Leds".com will provide an LED lamp which is brighter, takes far less power, and runs cool.

I replaced my tail light with the LED model from Motorrad Elektrik and it glows like a lighthouse.  5 minute installation and the entire housing is lit all the time, unlike stock, which is the lower bulb except when the brakes are applied.

Cheap insurance...
