R65 Filter Upgrades?

I always run a smear of white petroleum jelly (vasoline) between the join of the filter and the air box.  Just in case any wee particles want to find an alternate route into the carbs.  

The '65 when it was younger travelled some fairly remote places so used to come home pretty dirty and dusty.  I am still cleaning some of that crap out years later.

I've always been curious about those air filters that attach directly to the carb and bypass the airbox, which was removed from the bike.  Just got snotty responses when I asked the question on Airlist.

Anyone here ever used them???
