You're probably just seeing the light coating of grease gradually seeping out. Doesn't take much to be noticeable.

I have considered them. I don't like my stanchions being 'naked' like this, and the fewer paths for dirt to get in, the better. I'm not inclined to take it apart again so soon, but next time they will be on my list.

I put a set on my '81 R65 a little over 4 years ago, at first, they looked out of place, but now they seem to fit in with the bike .
