My r65 has a rt fairing
« on: July 31, 2011, 09:57:16 PM »
My 84 has a rt fairing installed by Bob's bmw back in the 90s. I discovered that the main frame was the same as the r80s&r100s that rt fairing would fit, found one had it pained blue like the bike and Bob's put it all together. When it"s hot I take off the lowers, put on a shorter windshield
and ride.

I was probably working there when that was installed. What year?
BUT, the frames are not the "same", similar yes where it's important, but not the same. Far from it.
Luckily for you the 81 and newer R65 frames were predrilled in the steering head for the fairing mount because in Europe they sold an R65RT.

That may not be a good thing to let get around now that I think of it...

Will a rs windshield fit my rt fairing? How do I post a picture? I' ve heard alot of talk about lubeing the drive shaft splines. I haven"t done mine yet.  Next time I take the r65 off the road I"ll do it. Plus I do the fork seals. Till then I"ll be out there on back roads smiling.

RT fairing at the top where the windshield mounts is much wider than the RS, which is more narrow - think like the front windscreen on a WWII fighter plane, versus a wider "windshield" type of thing..

I've been around through at least two boards and maybe three.. I'm just quiet. <ponders> I think I bought my R65 in October 2003 with ~9000 miles on it, and I'm up to 44600 now...

Re: the original post, I have a pichler and liked it quite a lot, but it's in very rough shape now after being dropped a dozen times and run over twice.  The mount kit seems to be just some pipe brackets, nothing special.  If I remember tonight I'll post a picture.

Get the windscreen you want from www.bikescreen.com

Leif Gustafsson can make anything.  He has been in the business forever.
