Cheap shocks on Ebay..good or bad???
« on: June 05, 2007, 07:39:24 PM »
Ok, there are some brand new shocks selling on E bay for 80 bucks, shipping is $21.00. I think this is about as cheap a set of shocks I have seen for a R65...... Hell of a lot less that BMW shocks. They are made by Forsa Enterprises........... any body ever heard of these Folks..ever had them on your bike??? Some of you with deep R65 experience check them out and give me your thoughts if ya please.

I've heard of that company name before, but have absolute "0" experience with them
so I cannot say anything one way or the other in that regard about quality or reputation.    But, of all the bike
models listed in the "application info" the BMW R65 is the biggest and heaviest.
I would therefore posit that regarding the springs and/or shock damping - if they are
tuned to be a good match for the smaller lighter bikes, might be undersprung/underdamped
on the R65, especially as BMWs have somewhat generous "cargo capacity", ie. "load weight".
If you are a larger person, or plan to do alot of riding 2-up, these might not be a good
choice , going purely on what I can see/read in this ebay posting.

Those springs are linear rate - meaning that they are approximately the same stiffness all the way through their travel. The rear springs that come stock on the R65 are progressive rate - they get stiffer as they are compressed. You can tell progressive springs because the coils on one end are closer than on the other end.

I say skip.  :-/
