Adjusting the idle...
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:16:11 PM »
Could someone tell me the proper way to adjust the idle?  Every time I start the bike, it runs great until I let off the choke and it dies. ugh. And I'm having not luck adjust the carbs.

I appreciate the help,

Milo

You really need to buy one of these owners manuals.

http://www.bmwr65.org/htdocs/yabbfiles/Attachments/R65OwnersManual_001.pdf

The info you seek is on page 79 of the manual, page 32 of the PDF.

From the looks of your bike, you should plan on taking apart your throttle cable splitter and cleaning it up, if not replacing it.

This PDF file is in the FAQ section here in the Tech section.

Ha!  Rob, no, no, that wasn't my bike in the on/off switch photo!  That was just a photo I found to show someone that owned a parts place the right switch I needed!  My bike is in a LOT better shape than that!  I definitely don't have the know how to do a project like THAT!  ;D

Thank you for the link, I GREATLY appreciate it.  I have a manual, I just couldn't get the throttle to adjust and thought maybe there was a "classic" mistake I was making that someone might know about.

That link is GREAT!  The manual I got with my bike was unusable, sorta fused into a paper mass. So thanks!

Thanks!  Great site!
