AGM Battery Sources
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:32:23 PM »
I hated to see these links get buried in an obscure thread (trips "hello, new owner" thread), so I decided to start a new thread, here, with both trip's link and Bob Roller's.  I may go "non-Odyssey" next time.  Vote with your money!  Force Odyssey to "get real"!

Feel free to add to the list, guys.

When I replaced my Odyssey battery 3 years ago I bought a genuine BMW battery, they are now AGM not the old lead acid type.

It was half the cost of an Odyssey.

My first 2 genuine BMW lead acid batteries lasted 8 years EACH so I thought it was worth a try (especially as the Odyssey battery died after only 2 years).

I can accept (reluctantly) that a small motorcycle battery might cost about the same as a much large car battery but I'm just not mentally prepared to pay twice the price so an Odyssey is a non starter for me.

I have this Staab AGM battery -see link- in both of my R65s. I also have a Battery Tender Jr that I occasionally swap around between the four bikes in the shop.

Very pleased with the performance of this product. Highly recommended.

Here's a new one:

I think I will give them a try when I need a new battery.  My Rebel battery is nearing the end of its life.
