Timing window
« on: August 23, 2010, 07:47:45 AM »
It seems really difficult to get a good view through the timing window with the strobe light. Any tips on angles and things?

The carbs and cables do get in the way don't they. You could swivel the carb a little if it helps. Won't do any harm just to set the timing.

Depending how good your strobe lamp is you might try turning the garage lights of.

I do it by trial and error, just keep changing view points until I find the one that works.  Luckily with my electronic ignition, I almost never have to do it.  :-)

Stick ya tounge out to the side, then tilt ya head to one side, then bounce ya body up and down till the slot in the hole can be seen and only then can the 's' or 'z' marks be seen to line up ;D.
(this system can also be used on the girlfriend or wife or both with some success, Warning can lead to the worst STD.....Children) :D

I have two strobe lights.  One is much brighter than th other (Xenon I think).  The weaker one of the two just doesn't work.

I find that the best way to see the timing marks with the strobe light is with the  celiing lights in the garage turned off and the doors pulled most of the way down (be sure to leave partway open and/or windows open for ventilation with engine running, of course !!!)
