After delving deeper into the Junkyard Dawg than I had on any previous bike I'd like to make some observations:
1. Rebuilding an Airhead transmission is not the scary black-art that many purport it to be. If you can read and follow instructions you can get through it. Cost of all new bearings, gaskets, and a couple new shims was a little over $100.
2. My home-brew stainless steel caliper pistons are still "happy" after a week so it appears I've dodged a several hundred dollar bullet.
3. I've decided that I really like the "feel" provided by the smaller piston single disc master cylinder while feeding the dual brakes.
4. My 303 stainless rear axle hasn't bent or broken - yet.
5. Extra firm upholstery foam is a pain in the ass - literally! I need to find somewhere that sells motorcycle firmness foam and carve a new seat as the other stuff squashes right down to the pan.
6. The $12 aftermarket headlight lens/reflector assembly does not throw as nice a beam pattern as the Bosch but costs considerably less!
7. The new Moto-Bins piston rings seem to have seated nicely.
8. My adjustable length gearshift pedal, in conjunction with an adjustable shift selector rod, feels quite nice.
9. You can make an LS seat-pan out of a standard seat pan with just a couple of "snips".
