How many hose clamps on each carb - one or two
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:13:19 PM »
I thought one clamp to air box and one clamp on carb.  My mechanic friend says two clamps on the carb side on each side of the hose.

Please let me know.

5 on each side on my '82.  2 between the head and the carb and 3 between the airbox and the carb.

If you are talking about the plastic tube that goes between the carb, and airbox, there is one clamp at the carb end, the rubber tube that connects the plastic tube to the air box, it has two clamps, one over the plastic tube/rubber tube junction, then one that goes over the short metal tube that comes out of the airbox .

still a bit confused on answer - I thought one clamp on each side of plastic tube (airbox) and one or two clamps where carb attaches to rubber.  Maybe a picture would help?  My clymer manual isn't so great with the pics I need.

Previous posts have it right

5 clamps in total

2 on the rubber joining sleeve at the airbox end of the plastic tube

1 at the carb end of the plastic tube

2 on the rubber sleeve between the carb and the cylinder head. Your picture is missing one of these.

Disregard all the nasty stuff. Old pic when bike first acquired.
Two clamps at the head. One clamp on carb intake...

Two clamps at airbox.

Total five clamps each side.     Monte

The BMW clamps are quite narrow for their size, you could try the common automotive hose clamps, and see if they would work for you .

The BMW clamps are not really any more expensive that decent quality hardware store clamps (like $1.50 each) and they have those cool little roundels stamped into them.

2X for Yikes.

Buy the OEM clamps. Thinner and way cool compared to the Hardware store hose clamp variety.
