Head cover bolt does'n get tight
« on: March 28, 2010, 01:27:08 AM »
Hi all,I know this does not happened on my R65 but any help will be appreciated. >:( >:(
I just did a valve adjustment on my R11S,When i put the head cover back 3 of the bolts tight pretty good but the fourth one just kept rollin.I know what that's mean-The thread of the bolt or the head is done. >:(The result of this is a drop on the bottom of right cylinder between the head and the cover. What is the way to fix this?
P.S.After the adjustment the bike run like champ,I also change the plugs from Bosch 4417 to Autolite 3923.What a difference.

Thank's in advance

The bolts on the oilheads, are 'captured', they don't come out of the cover even with the bolts loose, just wondering if the bolt got off to one side, and never made it to the threaded hole it's supposed to go into .

I would loosen up the other three bolts, and then try the problem bolt again .

Unless you cross threaded the bolt into the head, and I think you would have known if you did this, I don't think you have a problem .

I would remove the valve cover, and take a look at the threads in the head, before anything else .

Check your local auto parts store, and see what is available in your area .

I don't think that will work in this situation, you need to compress the valve cover gasket, so it doesn't leak .

I'm surprised that the threads were stripped, every time I have the valve cover off for a valve adjustment, I have one bolt that won't tighten up, it usually goes off to one side, and doesn't mate up with the threaded hole .
