New Brake Lines, Rotors, Pads for my R65LS Project

Hi Gang:

Well I've definitely gone overboard but wow is it fun!  I recently wrote a story about brakes for the BMW MOA magazine and interviewed Matthias Schaub who owns Spiegler Performance.  As a result of what I learned, I sent him my beat up hubs & rotors and had them converted to floating rotors.  I also bought Carbone Lorraine brake pads and red lines with black trim.  The red will match the tank & side covers perfectly - I'm really psyched!  Click on a link to see the eye candy!

Hi Ken, just an observation ...
IMHO painting the sidecovers red on an R65LS will take away the 'horizontal' line that gives the LS the unique look that stands them apart from the standard R65.
I always liked the fact that the LS tank and sidecovers are phsically the same as the base R65 but the bike is made to look so more 'modern' or even 'sporty' with some well designed matt black paint.
I'm sure that Hans Muth would agree, if he is still around!

Cheers Bruce

Hi Bruce:
I didn't paint the side covers red - I have an old magazine article of the R65LS and that too has red side covers - they look very stock to me.

Bruce!  As a new LS owner, and as a glider pilot, I thank you for posting that fabulous brochure.  Outstanding.  Thanks.  (And I agree about the side covers.)
Ken, I am awaiting the report on the new setup.  It sure looks to be an improvement.  I was surprised how well my LS stopped in apparently stock form , however.  If you weren't on the other side of the continent, I would suggest a meetup for a braking shootout.  It would be fun to get some hard numbers on stopping distances.  Braided steel lines made a marked improvement on one of my other machines. . .and I'm sure those pads and floating discs are going to behave better if you ever get the brakes really hot.  I have more surface area though, with my horribly fluted original discs! :D

Bruce,

That is cool looking brochure. If you ever get a chance to do a high resolution scan of it I would love a copy.

Ken, I love the look of the red brake lines. Very nice.
