Stainless steel acorn nuts
« on: December 30, 2009, 01:38:54 PM »
Super glue just ain't doing it for me no mo'.[smiley=furious3.gif]

The black plastic front fender nut covers on the R65s continue to crack with age and/or abuse. You know; the ones that secure the fender to the brace? Looks pitiful with three covers on and one awol.

Today, I was grazing the local Home Depot big box store with a Christmas gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Drifting down the hardware aisle, I spied, with my semi-blind eyes, stainless metric hardware. Lo, there in the drawer were SS metric acorn nuts (2 @ 0.55) that will replace the nylok nuts and plastic covers on both my R65s.

Who knew?     Monte

What greater joy can there be than to wander a hardware store with money to spend. I love those places.

Nice idea Monte.

My 30 year old covers are all still in place but starting to split.  I turn em so they dont show too bad for now. I'll keep a look out for nuts though.

Permanent black magic marker does an acceptable job, and easy to re-apply when necessary .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!
