Clutch Cable

When i fitted my"high" bars i fitted a new longer clutch cable as specified by Motorworks.Every now and then the clutch seems fierce and i was wondering if ive routed the cable correctly?? the throttle cable seems to take a nice arc from the bars but the clutch cable seems to be at a sharp angle.
Have a look at the photos and let me know what you think.

See what you mean Lou. Mine comes almost straight out from the lever on the low bars.

Yours has to drop down a good way before passing under the pad so I can't see how you could improve it.

That seems like a fairly sharp angle - are the bars/grips at a good height for you?   I am thinking that if you could either slide the left perch assembly a bit further out toward the bar end, and/or rotate the entire handlebars in the clamps forward& upward a bit, it might reduce that angle, though this may make things at an uncomfortable position for you.

Does the cable pass under the dash panel and just insise the right side headlight bracket and gracefully curve down to meet the right front frame down tube?

Yes...i wondering if i route the cable under the handlebar instead of over if it (like the throttle) may improve things, im quite happy with the riding position so i don't really want to move the bars unless i have too.

I just checked mine, and it comes out straight, I predict an early cable failure, if it stays like it is .

Anything you can do to get it straighter would be worth the effort .

Just got done changing the oil in the oilhead, it's clear sunny and 72 F. (22C.), and 81 F. (28C.) in the garage at 1620 .

Are those BMW high bars?  

All I can think is that they have a different bend that what BMW had designed the perch for.

Since my bars are the low bars, I cannot help, much.

Hmmm I've got High bars on mine (12 inch pull back) let me have a look...

My cable runs down infront of the bar and turns at a farly steep angle.  I think my bars are wider than yours...maybe that has something to do with it.  Hmmm.

I called in at Motorworks when i was rebuilding the bike i have problem bending due to abdominal surgery and knew i wouldnt be able to cope with the standard bars. They recommended the "RT" bars (Rob i thought they were BMW but no marks or stamps??),they must be a standard fit as the wiring loom extends straight up to it without alteration and theres a full set of cables to go with them.

Ive tried several ways to fit the cable and none that route under the Bezel look right so here's what ive settled on.

Aw, Lou's just been using the ghetto DIY soda blaster! My driveway looked like that after a few boxes of baking soda were blown through.

The clutch cable run now looks much better, Lou. You shouldn't have any concerns of premature failure.

How about a longer cable Lou? If not available ex stock there are places that make up cables to order, see classic m/c mags...

There are various lengths of clutch cables available for our bikes, if you don't see one in then proper dimension listed on the R65 parts catalogs, try other displacement bikes of the same year, the cable end fittings are the same across the entire line of BMW bikes in the R65's years of manufacture .
