Best place (price-wise) to order rotor and pads?

OK, since I rarely order parts online, I'm clueless.... :-/

Where would be the best place to get a rotor and brake pads for Britta?  I've got to bite the bullet and get a new rotor on her, and want to put a new set of pads on at the same time.  I've never done this by myself, but a club member gave me a genuine BMW shop manual for the R65, so I figure I should be able to "follow directions" and replace the rotor and brake pads myself, right?  

I mean, it's not like trying to balance and synch carbs, right? :-?  Anything special to know beforehand about removing a rotor and disc pads?   Any particular brand names of pads and/or rotors to look for or avoid?

Oh John, I'm sorry you missed out on the sale on EBC rotors at The Bike Bandit.

I found it easier to shop from the R45 category than the R65.  They seem a little confused about R65s.

I know Bob Roller took advantage, as did I.  Mine was $185 with shipping for the rotor.  Now their regular price is $211.50 (plus shipping).  

When I was getting ready to buy, I looked around and NOBODY came close to that price.  Their regular price may be less than most folks, as well.  They list $238 as the MSRP for this EBC rotor.

I just get my pads from Matt at Boxerworks.  I like to support him however I can.  I put new pads on last Spring when I rebuilt my brakes, but those pads are probably shot from my groovy rotors.  So until I can get a new set of pads, I won't install the new rotor.  (new alternator/power steering belts for the auto intervened...)

Can you order online from Boxerworks?  I've not ordered from them before.  :-?

I found that Moto-Bins sells a Grimeca rotor for my bike for about US$160 plus S&H.  Does that sound like a good price to you?  I didn't see on their site where they offered pads for my Brembo caliper.  All I saw were pads to fit the ATE caliper.  I did send an email to them with an inquiry about pads that work with the Grimeca rotor and Brembo caliper, though.  Maybe I'll hear back from them Monday or Tuesday.   (I was a little confused, because the page with the rotors showed a Grimeca rotor which they referred to as a "shallow dish" rotor and another pic of one called a "deep dish" rotor.  Have you heard of this?  Any idea if Britta's rotor is a "deep dish" or "shallow dish"?)  

Sounds like I'm ordering pizza!

I recently ordered the stock BMW pads for the '82 LS project from Chicago BMW.  Their discounted price was $27.20 (list = 32.65 as of last December), as long as you don't mind waiting a month for 'em...  From what I could see the aftermarket pats were actually a bit higher so I went the stock route.

I took advantage of BikeBandits sale and got two EBC floating steel rotors ( '81 dual disc) and two sets of EBC graphite pads for $350 including shipping. OEM parts would have been around $530. I havn't installed the parts yet, so no comment on the performance aspect quite  yet.

Well, if Moto-Bins have a set of pads that will work with the rotor they advertise AND my Brembo caliper, I'll probably order the stuff from them.  I was going to order the replacement seat cover for Britta from them anyway.  Might as well make it a multiple order!

(Hope they can tell me whether I need a shallow or deep dish rotor!)

John, what is a rotor going to cost after figuring in he exchange rate, shipping, and you credit card "money-changing" fee?

The "price" of approx. US$160 for the rotor is after the conversion rate.  I haven't received the rate for shipping to here in SC yet.  That will determine whether or not I use Moto-Bins.  I'm sure shipping from somewhere in the US would be less, but I'm not sure just how much.  (I don't think I'd find as good a price on the rotor itself in the US, though.)

You should probably prepare for a shock.  Small items ship fairly reasonably from UK, heavier stuff, well I was quite surprised.  Plus, I think Moto-Bins uses shipping from a higher priced carrier once the value is above a certain amount (for tracking purposes I suppose).
