Seat and Cover

Morning All,

I took the seat off this weekend (along with a few other bits!) and found the underside of the seat has a lot of rust, we removed the back panel and are now left with the seat covering pop rivets/small metal panels holding the seat cover on. I need a new seat cover, so want to remove seat cover to renew and then restore the seat frame itself.

Do I drill the rivets out and then separate the covering from the frame?

My manual (Clymer) does not seem to cover this bit!

Yes You need to drill out the rivets and re-use the metal strips when you fit the new cover.  It's likely some of the rivets will spin so go easy and use a sharp drill.

The cover is also glued on so you will need some sort of impact adhesive.

I think there is a write up on fitting a new seat cover somewhere on the forum. You might want try a search. If not a few of us have fitted new covers and will chip in when you get to that stage. You'll be needing quite a few strong bulldog clips or something similar to hold the edges as  you stretch it to fit.
