Before and After

Thanks to all you guys who provided their valuable time and help to finish this little project.  Here is the picture of the bike when i bought and at present.

What did you do to the mufflers? I mean beside making them look brand new.

I have some automotive disc brake caliper paint in gloss black that's supposed to be good for up to 1400F degrees. I'm planning on wet sanding the 83's LS muffs and getting them all shiny.

The mufflers on my LS, still have a shine to them, but the header pipes, and the forward crossover pipe, kinda have a more grayish tint to them .

After I use up my expensive POR-15 flat black hi temp paint, I may switch over to using a gloss paint - if the mufflers haven't totall rotted out by then !

Looking good, but please paint the sidecovers and the bottom of the tank matt black to give it back it's LS lines.  Cheers Bruce

Looks gorgeous, it should be next to mine! One Silver and One Red!
What happened to the brake calipers, I never seen it in Silver.
Also, I gather it's been repainted, I had to do the same after showing my bottom to a VFR800, but kept the black paint on bottom tank.

Quite a transformation!  What did you do to get the aluminum so bright and shiny? No matter how clean I get my engine, it still has that dull grey pallor to it.  Whatever you did, your bike looks amazing and will surey draw a lot of attention wherever you take it.

Here is a little bit of info on paint I used on the bike.  If any questions in particular please feel free to ask.
- Frame, Mufflers, Valve covers, Stator and Timing chain cover > gloss black paint > Tremclad High heat paint (good to 650F)
- Headers > VHT flat black paint (vhtpaint.com) available at local Canadian tire stores. Good to 2000F)
- Engine Aluminum > VHT Caliper Paint (CSP735 Cast Aluminum).  Good to 900F or 490C.  Use light coat and avoid making  a layer of paint and if u want a little used look sand it will 3M scotch pad. It is a very close to the actual aluminum look and looks beautiful.  Clean engine well before applying.  I used Engine cleaner, Thinner, liquid soap detergent to fully clean the surfaces.
- Wheels > Rust Oleum White gloss epoxy Appliance Paint.
I will make another post regarding the mechanical repairs done and resources used.

When the Texas summer temps moderate, I plan to repaint the Mexico bike's LS-style mufflers. Have a shiny black brake caliper paint from one of the big hot rod web vendors that is rated to 1600F degrees. The muffs are in excellent condition but I've burned myself out on wet sanding after the paint job on this bike. Maybe when it's cooler...   Monte
