changing gearlube types?

I've been running valvoline synthetic gear lube for the last few hundred miles but I want to change out my gearshifter shaft seal and need to drain the tranny to do it.
The local MC shop had Golden spectro on the shelf so I grabbed a couple bottles to do my refill and then started wondering if there is any clean out proceedure for changing from synthetic to regular?

I plan to change the driveshaft and final drive over as well so there is no chance of cross contamination.....

Yes, there is a slight weep here and there and I hope the switch over helps that.

No problem to switch back.  I switched from Valvoline Synthetic back to plain Castrol dino without any problems.  Only side effect I noticed was my weeping stopped.  Hope it works for you too.

I replaced my gearshifter shaft seal last night and had to drain the gearbox anyway so I thought I'd go ahead and try the dino.
And as of late last night all the little weep areas had stopped weeping

so here's to hoping!

no not all the way in there is still a gap to the ball swivel.
I went off Bob_Rollers post that he had about 3/8" in from lip.
I went in almost 3/8 which still left a gap...it's never shifted better.

You can change that seal (if you want) without draining the oil by leaning the bike against something on the right side.  Sounds like everything worked out better for you this way, though.

Thanks Ed that's a good tip!

I had thought recently about a stand that would allow me to lean the bike over to work like a bike lift that would also help me change the tranny fluid ....

It's been several days now since the switch back to dino oil and no weeping or dripping or even a hint of a drizzle ...I hope it stays that way for a while!
