Bing alcohol proof fuel line
« on: May 13, 2009, 02:39:41 PM »
Just a quick note...

I just received my fuel line order from Aircraft Spruce and Supply and can see no difference between their "generic" translucent blue polyurethane fuel line and the Bing blue fuel line.  They come marked with different part numbers and if the Bing stuff wasn't marked "BAI - URETHANE" every so often I'd not be able to tell which was which.  That might be why the price between the two is so close, only eleven cents more for the "Bing" stuff...

I just finished installing the "generic" (Aircraft Spruce part number 05-01049) on the '81 R100.  All went smoothly, the line fits the petcock and carb fittings very snugly and without leaks.  The line is 3/8" OD so it passes between airbox and block with ease.  The actual wall thickness is slightly thicker (.067" vs .060) on the Bing and generic "fuel line" when compared against the standard urethane line.

I replaced the clear urethane line that I installed 3 years ago as a test.  This line was not advertised as a fuel delivery line but I figured I'd test it anyway.  I can say that 3 years on the regular urethane line was the limit as I had one split overnight in the garage and it really stunk up the place!  The line was still very pliable but one piece had about a 1" split very close to where the line attached to the R/H petcock.  At least when this stuff gives up the ghost it doesn't fill your carbs full of crud and cause float sticking issues!

I will install the Bing Blue "alcohol resistant" line on Barbi's '84 R65 over the weekend if I have time.

I think that this stuff is a pretty good deal at at well under $1.50/foot.

I've got to get a spring or two and some other bits to finish up my "spare" set of carbs - I'll probably put in an order for the fancy new hose, too.
