Electrical Harness Installation
« on: March 07, 2009, 04:09:11 PM »
All,
I'm restoring a 1981 R65 after a complete rebuild and newly powder-coated frame. Even though I've created detailed sketches (I thought)and photos, I'm missing a little detail in regards to general location of the main harness and specific hanging locations for auxillary tie-points. Funny how black wiring on black frame tends to lose adequate definition! I'll know to better photo and document next time.

Does anyone have rebuild pictures or detailed clear schematics of the harness and secondary routing for this bike? I'm sure with diligence and tenacity I can get it to fit, but want to save time and enrollment in anger-management classes.

Thanks in advance,
Mike V. / Newby / San Diego

Sorry, I've no rebuild photos to send ya, but I think that the wiring on my 82LS is stock - I could probably take the tank off and take some pics of specific areas if you want.

There are some others here who may have more pics ready.

I only have a '79.  Too many differences to be of much help. :(

Later today, Sunday, I'll pull the tank on my 81 and shoot some snaps. Don't want to overload with too many photos so will start with a small selection.

Gotta mow the grass. I hate that. Thinking astro turf, here.   Monte

Hi

Look at http://picasaweb.google.dk/petertrolle/Wiring which contains a lot of pics taken before I started restoring my '83-10 r65 in 2005.

I think that it was stock then as I did not find anything which deviated from the wiring diagrams.

As I am going to reassemble my r65 which has been completely and utterly disassembled for cleaning and repainting I am grateful that I was reminded of these pictures.

greetings from a sunny and calm north (the first real day of spring)

Here are a few pix of the wiring in the "Junkyard LS".  Don't know if they will help much as it's hard to see where stuff goes...

Maybe Justin when this all gets sorted out it would be good to put the pics and any points made into our Tech section?

Sorry to hijack this thread for a second but this jogs my mind to ask: Has anyone done the spline lube thing in great detail yet as I never see it in the Tech section although it has been mentioned recently by Bob Roller or Semper Gumby on another thread. Something about not being able to post a link to a "line 10" or something I barely remember reading.

I would love for somebody to post spline lube instructions (with pix) into the Wiki...

I do plan to document the next time I do any major work on the bike.  But the only thing I have coming up this summer is changing the brake fluid.  And I'm pretty happy about that.

Somewhere on one of my PCs I have pics from replacing my clutch, which could be used to help document the full-blown spline lube with transmission out process.... if I can find them..

Mike, thanks for volunteering.  Check the Wiki and you'll notice I have linked in some suggested pages.  If you log into the Wiki, go to a page that is empty, you will immediately go into edit mode and you can start entering content.  It's pretty easy and you can edit (I think) some of the other pages to see formatting, etc.

Mike, I uploaded five photos of my R65 wiring into the Photo Gallery.  I took these photos to help me reassemble my bike.  I hope you find them useful.

Stan,
Thank you very much. The photos are a huge help and will aid as a primary source next to my less than clear pictures taken with a conventional camera 10 years ago. Once I get the guts hung in loosely along the main frame and directed to the components under the tank it should be pretty simple. Thanks again for the help - great photos and let me know how the rebuild is going, don't forget to flush the tank well, check for rust inside and blow dry very well. Just finished my /7 yesterday and all is well in there (sigh). Keep me in the loop (mvtv@cox.net), and, thanks again.
