Yamaha XV1900
« on: August 02, 2026, 02:13:32 PM »
A custom XV1900 has come up for sale near me at less than 50% it's normal price. The reason being, the dreaded 3rd gear noise. The seller is quite open about 3rd gear having failed.

As bikes go, it is quite complex. The 3rd gear issue was common and requires a complete tear-down to the last nut and bolt. It will need bearings, gaskets and some Yamaha-only gear parts - 3rd gear and it's counterpart. It may also need a gearbox scavenge pump if really unlucky.

Although air cooled, they are dry sump and quite complex to rebuild.

The Starbike forum has gone quiet on this subject. There are no videos on a repair. Lots on the various Millwaukee lemons that Harley make!
