RE-Chrome - Good or Bad, regrets?
« on: August 03, 2025, 04:50:47 PM »
I am considering getting my exhaust re-chromed. I'd like to hear from members that have done it and was it worth it and did it last. If you have any suggestions for alternative ways to finish the exhaust, I would like to hear them.

This is the first time I've seen a post about re-chroming the exhaust system .

The only rechromed exhaust I have seen didn't take long for it to start turning blue at the head and then move down the exhaust pipe. It will stop rust

Here's a company that has been ceramic coating exhaust systems for decades .
No idea about the cost .

Chroming is pretty pricey. Also, what is the reason for considering this - If its starting to flake or is pitted, it will take a lot of filling (weld), levelling and polishing. A new stainless system must be a viable (better and longer lasting) alternative?

if this was a 1920s rare bike, then maybe. But 70s, 80s, 90s?

I re-chromed the headpipes on my '73 Honda CB-450 years ago and they started turning blue after the first ride.  The ceramic coating would be the way to go...
