Sidestand not extending all the way
« on: June 02, 2025, 01:33:24 PM »
Hello, i've recently bought a 1982 r65 ls but i realized that the kick stand doesnt fold out far enough for it to support the bike (luckily i noticed this right before it fell). I wonder if this is a problem that is widely known and has some fixes or if i need some replacement parts. The kick stand only folds out perpandicular to the frame of the bike(attatched pictures to clear up confusion). Thanks in advance

It's for BMW R60, R75, R80, R100. They (and the centre stand, plus a bunch of other bits) are different.

You might be able to modify it. They are simple things. The real R65 stand is not great before you go looking for one. Aftermarket ones are supposed to be better. You have to feel under the left cylinder with a twinkle toe, with the bike leant to the right, to get it down, or hook it up. Once down, I find it very reliable. The alternative ones sit further back.

That looks like a R65LS side stand which is IMHO worthless. I use the center stand most of the time.
