LuftMeister advice
« on: May 10, 2025, 12:17:31 PM »
So I picked up an 83 R65 with an 852cc Luftmeister big bore kit with matching two into one exhaust. This was done in 1989 at 37k by a Mr. Branch and now has 75k miles on it.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of set up?
Does anyone still have this sort of set up?
It seems that everything is R65 that’s easy enough.
I’ve balanced the carb and checked the valve clearance. The left plug looked OK right was wet. Both cylinders had a lot of carbon built up inside of them on the piston head. Put a little chamber clean in my last tank jury still out on results.
It’s running well enough for further testing and timing this wknd.
I would like to pull the heads and give the valves and seats a good inspection, but I’m not sure what size head gasket it uses. Is it something special for the LuftMeister or does it just run stock R 65 head gaskets that is my query Any experience advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Siebenrock 860 kit on my R65. This uses the same head gasket as the standard 1000cc engine. Since the stroke on yours and mine are identical, I'll willing to bet the head gasket is the same size. I cant find exact specs on either, so the capacity may be identical. 8cc on a largish piston like these being a very small bore difference.
