Embrace it Bob.
Life is in the three phases of childhood, working, and then retirement. I'm in the third phase now and the secret is in keeping yourself busy or occupied. I am so busy in socialising, my hobbies and enjoying life it is as the old saying goes, How did I ever find time to work?
If you are one of those people that need to keep busy then try something different such as volunteering, or packing shelves twice a week. Some people need the social aspect of work, others don't. Once you finally walk out the door, NO ONE cares. You're on your own so do what you want to do.
Most importantly, slow down, as I just spent the first twelve months relaxing and kicking back. Don't put any pressure on yourself to achieve anything special or to work part time. It took me a while to adjust to normal sleep patterns after shift work and to work out a routine to what I wanted to do and not to meet others expectations. When you retire, who cares anymore what others think.
As my friends who live down Tucson way and very recently retired said, Everyday is a Saturday.
Obviously it is is important to have the finances worked out which it appears you have which includes retirement income and owning your house. As you no longer will spend money on getting to work, etc., your spending will decrease, so work out the monthly costs and sit back and relax.
As I say to people, I don't have a lot of money but I have enough. Also you need to have a stock of cash on hand for emergency purposes which I now have after the sale of some property. Then there is the fact that what is your life expectancy and what sort of increase in living costs will there be in the future? And keep up your medical insurance as well, just in case.
Go for it Bob, get out and do all the stuff you've been meaning to do. Get on one of the bikes and go riding for a few days. I have a friend who lives up Tacoma, WA way and he often goes for long rides and posts it on another forum. So much to see and do.
Start enjoying life again.
