Silent Hektik permanent magnet alternator
« on: August 04, 2024, 08:25:26 AM »
I fitted the SH ignition a while ago and am very happy with it. So when the alternator light decided to stay on during the bikes annual MOT (safety checks), I thought about the matching alternator.

On taking the existing alternator off, there were a few issues:
  • Brushes arcing with burn marks.
  • Terminations looking a bit crispier and weaker than last time I looked.
  • Corrosion on the spring mount (+ve side).
  • Some pitting on the stator (which needs a skim as paper and polish doesn't go dep enough).

None of this is unfixable, and i've kept the assembly. Once I get the stator skimmed, I'll box it up.

The new one is of course, fabulous. All the old wiring comes out, just 3 cores to a small combined rectifier/regulator and 14.2V at tickover. I have a Gel battery. The fiddly timing wheel has gone and now resides on the alternator itself. The little 'ninja star' was the only part that wasn't ideal on the original ignition.

Replaced the seal since it was looking at me! 28x47x7 Nitrile.

The ONLY drawback with this is  :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: oh and more  :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: !
