Aftermarket Brake Pads For ATE Calipers
« on: December 06, 2023, 01:00:16 PM »
Going to replace the master cylinder seal on my silver ‘82 LS .
The current pads look like OEM .
I’ve got EBC pads on my ‘81 R65 and greatly improved wet braking over the OEM pads, no noticeable improvement in dry conditions .
When I replaced the pads on my ‘81 R65, I ordered FA18 EBC pads, according to the EBC catalog this pad was good on all R65’s from’81 onwards, they are good for Brembo calipers .
I used a die grinder and a rotary bit to alter the pads to the ATE calipers .
My silver LS has ATE calipers .
Just wondering if there are better pads out there, any personal experiences ?
If anyone is considering EBC pads, FA57 work on ATE calipers .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

I've only ever used the EBC FA57 pads so have no other comparison.  Any inadequacy in the braking I put down to what is by modern standards a very poor hydraulic ratio.  They improved it in 81 by going from a 13mm to 12mm master cylinder on a single disc. I should have done something about it but after 17 years I wonder if I'll ever get around to it.

The only thing I would like to improve on the R65, is brakes . After putting EBC HH pads on my oil head  I realize how, under powered the brakes are on the R65 .
