Totally pissed off and upset. Cat thread.
« on: November 21, 2023, 12:49:03 PM »
A young black cat has been showing up over the last month or so. He's not stray, but we feed our old cat outside away from the greyhounds - so he's been hanging around. He is a PITA. Always purring, around your legs, in the car or under the bonnet if you leave them  open. As cats go, the most friendly and intelligent cat I've met.

I've had to shoo him off when at the side of the house or worse looking down on our dogs from the fence, but despite that he comes back for strokes and cuddles. One of our greyhounds would simply eat him. It's prey to him. So despite trying to be 'off' with him, we are aquainted.

This morning, the poor little sod turned up soaking wet and half covered in what seemed to be detergent or (from the smell) washing machine liquid. In his eyes, all over. I bathed him, dried him and watched for a half hour, but he was pretty poorly. So I took him to the vet and he wan't sure if he'd make it. What is it with pets? Even they are not yours? I'll call tomorrow to see if he's still with us. Hopefully the owner will contact me on facebook and hopefully i'll have good news.

In my area on the outskirts of the Phoenix, we have a large population of coyotes .
Haven't seen a stray animal in 25 years !!

During the daylight hours, we have large birds of prey hawks with 4-5 foot wingspans at night owls prowl the area with regularity.

Clyde successfully dined on two crows one morning. Heavy, nasty things that take lambs.

He might not finish a buzzard (we have those), but he'd have a go. I've seen a greyhound devour whole legs and other parts of a hare. Buzzards make lorry drivers swerve to avoid them. Not heard any owls or seen any hornets this year  :-\ A few dragonflies, not many bats.

Cats? we must have 50 locally. This poor little one didn't deserve what he got.

I'm working on it Skippy,

One of the local kids (probably 19 now) who I've known for years says her cat has been shot by a pellet gun today. Possibly un-related. This sort of abuse doesn't happen here. Someone knows......   :chairshot:

Very charitable and karma will reward you.

Anybody who treats animals like that has issues and needs to be strung up by their testicles (if they have them) and when cut down, you dry the testicles pouch and use it for keeping your tobacco.  Apparently that was once a thing.

Hi Burt, I'm sorry to say the vet called a couple of days later. They had to put him down. He'd swallowed too much trying to get it off. Being positive, 3 months later all the usual local moggies are present and correct.

Key pouch is useful to stop scratches on the bike though  :behead:

That's a shame that the poor little bugger didn't make it...  :(  One of ours, Ginger, aka Jabba the Cat, swallowed some sewing thread that just happened to have a needle on the end of it.  It had to be surgically removed from the intestine at the tune of $1200.  This was 10 years, or so, ago.  Vet gave her a 50-50 chance but today she is very fat and sassy!
