type in your 7 digit serial number found next to the oil fill hole on the engine block.  That will take you to the fiche you need for that engine (hopefully your engine and frame #'s match.

I was compelled to write this by the recent queries about some parts.

We in R65-land are lucky in that we only have 3 major changes during the 15-odd year run of the R65 engine.  Owners of the big-frame have a lot more headaches!

Rob,  Thanks for the link.  Interesting.  I find that my R 65 was manufactured in 12/83.  The engine number is located on a polished surface on the left front of the engine, not near the oil filler hole.  This is what they started to do in 1984.  Also, the frame and engine numbers do not match even though I was pretty sure the entire bike/package is original as I know its history of ownership.  If you can give me any info on this, it might qwell my anxiety.

I think that it was around the 84 model year that they stopped putting the engine number over the oil plug location, if memory serves.
Your bike's mfg date of 12/83 identifies it as a 1984 model - in Germany the production runs for a model year went from September of the prior calendar year until June/July of the model year, then the factory closed down for August holiday (like most of Europe), and they would
start building the next model year's bikes when they returned from holiday sometime in September.
