Hard Cold Start Oilhead

The oilhead has developed a cold hard starting issue .
The weather here in Phoenix has finally cooled down, 43 F this morning when I left for work .
When I got from work yesterday noticed a loud ticking sound like a valve out of adjustment, never heard this sound before from this bike .
Upon inspection, found the right throttle body shaft and cable pulley bouncing around .
Looks like I have a throttle body overhaul to do .
The Bing Agency in the US has all the parts in a kit for this .
From the looks of it, a lot simpler to do than a CV carb overhaul .
But more costly !!!!!

Eeek. Was it just one end of the shaft - I guess the butterfly is still in the carb?

Haven't removed the throttle body to see how bad the damage is .
The engine wasn't running right on my way home Friday
The butterfly plate most likely is damaged with the amount of movement I saw when the engine was running .

Finally got my parts on Monday, some were no stock and the postal service took over two weeks to deliver it to me.
Not an overly difficult job a couple of things gave me issues, but I got through it in about 5 hours.
Knowing what I do now, next time I would say two hours.
Need to get it installed on the bike and see if it works or not !!!
Of course the parts were pricey, Bing Agency .
If I had to replace the throttle shaft, it may have better to replace the throttle body for about $100 more .

Got the throttle body installed today .
Runs great hard starting issue gone and the throttle shaft doesn't wobble around .

I have come to the discussion late, hope you got your hard starting problem solved.

If not I would have a look at your ambient air temp sensor, it is located at the aircleaner and it's wiring is relatively easily damaged.

If you have access to a GS911 sensor problems can be quiet ckly confirmed. The cheap Motoscsan phone app is getting better and better. In fact paired with a cheap OBDII Bluetooth module and a cheap cable Motoscsan can do pretty much anything the GS911 can.
I successfully used it to run the pump so that I could flush the brake fluid on the now departed G650GS.
