Oilhead ignition coil
« on: June 11, 2022, 04:47:30 PM »
My oilhead quit on me Thursday on the way home 2 miles from work and 110 F, 43 C .
A disastrous story of getting roadside  emergency towing, only took them 8 hours to get to me !!!
I did a little bit of troubleshooting today after work .
I pulled a sparkplug lead off and put a spare plug on it .
Got a fat reddish orange spark, so I'm thinking the coil is bad .
Can't find my oilhead manual cd, so anyone have access to one if so what are the resistance values for the primary and secondary circuitsof the coil .
I had it loaded on my previous computer, but neglected to load it on this one .
Found the cd, only info in the manual, connect coil to BMW test equipment !!!!
No values are there .

Dang.  Can you determine what kind of ignition amplifier is used?  If you can you might be able to do some research and find some nominal values.

I found some technical info on the Euro Motoelectric site.
A replacement coil for this bike has .6 ohm primary and 7.2k ohms for the secondary .

Got the coil removed, had to wait until I could drain the fuel out of the oilhead and put it other vehicles.
The primary checked good at .6 ohms, the secondary was open .
I've got a replacement coil and ignition leads on order from Euromoto Electric, along with some odds and ends I can use .
From the wiring diagram I have the engine management module controls the ignition, no other amplifiers are used .
