Hi all,

New rider and BMW owner,

Bought this R65 and rode it home (still in SoCal) from Venice Beach. Took on quite a few little jobs, including rebuilding the ignition switch after that bricked and many carb rebuilds until I bought fresh ones. It was short lived after much home wrenching, blew an exhaust valve and is currently about to undergo surgery with new heads, valves, etc. I really enjoyed riding the thing until it decided to detonate coming up a hill on a cold August morning on my way to work, but I am trying my hardest to start the rebuild ASAP.

Took her on a few longer freeway trips through Long Beach and it always ran smooth and shifted clean until the detonation. It also came with krauser luggage cases which will hopefully one day be installed, but for now I'm waiting for the bike to come to life first.

Hoping to get it running by the summer so it can trip around northern California.

Nice to have you aboard and will be nice seeing you through your rebuild and back on the road. We love pics!! What you described sounds expensive. if you're going retail.  We have lots of sources for used parts, give us a shout when you need something.

Got a great deal on a pair of '83 heads that had been sitting in someone's storage over ebay. 300+tax n shipping for both sides. (maybe that isn't a good deal but you tell me) Once I get those in, and can get the measurements of my old pistons I'll make a post on the whole project and see about asking around for parts. Hopefully I can source some fresh or at least useable pistons to go along with the new valve setups?

It's honestly in shambles, but hopefully someone has a parts engine I could utilize

I could not tell if your cylinders survived, but if you need some nice cylinders and pistons I have a set on the shelf that are low mileage.
