40th anniversary r 65 LS/r 80 GS rally
« on: September 22, 2019, 01:46:38 PM »
I had the privilege of attending the r65 LS/r80 GS 40th anniversary rally in Harlesville Pennsylvania this weekend. The designer of these (and many other bikes), Hans Muth was the featured speaker. As a special treat he and George Martin (owner of the largest BMW Motoradd dealership in Germany) unveiled their latest creation. The "r800 GS based on an r 65 motor (see photo). It consists of a r 80 GS fork and frame, r65 motor, r65 sub frame and purpose made seat, tank pads and side covers.

It also saw the opening of the organizers "Bavarian Bike Barn". A great tie was had by all!!

Thank you so much for posting. I have a 1983 R65LS in Henna red with the beautiful white wheels. Little Red Baron (LRB) did want to go to that 40th anniversary but we did not...sigh...LRB shows his years of experience pretty well and I sorta, and I say sorta, like the wind abraded red on his front 1/4 nacelle/front cowl. Perfect paint would be nice but I sure would worry a lot! LOL!
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Thank you so much for posting.

I wanted to go but 3000 miles was out of my range.( I wudda done a 1000 miler to meet "The Man") It was a Halley's Comet event, as it won't be around again in my life time.

Couldn't help notice that it looked like a Senior event. I would of fit right in. ;D

Have to agree. I estimate the average age of those present was early 60's with a range of early 50's to early 70's. I am just a bit older than the average myself!
