June 1: Tumbleweed Vintage Motorcycle Show
« on: May 09, 2014, 07:57:41 AM »
Saw this on the local craigslist:
http://providence.craigslist.org/mcy/4438913302.html

Twin shock R65's just make the cut for "vintage"  ::)
Seems like it could be a good time.  Looking on the internet it sounds like they had around 400 motorcycles last year.  No admission+cheap food.  I wonder if they have free coffee  ;D

If not, swing by the local funeral home. The pot's always on.

Looks interesting, but I'm afraid I've got too many irons in the fire this weekend.. :-/

I am pretty sure that the Yankee Beemers club will be there in some numbers - they are a fairly decent group.   If you buy one of their coffee mugs you can always get it refilled with coffee for free afterward-they pretty much run on coffee ..

Too bad it isn't vintage iron in the fire  :'(

Thanks for the heads up on the coffee mug.  I might fit in well with those folks... coffee forms the base of my food pyramid.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make it today. The Mrs started a new job a couple weeks ago, and the only time we get to spend together is today. Unfortunately she doesn't think riding to Taunton sounds like as much fun as I do. ::)

It was a fun show.  First all-bike show I've been to.  Lot's of harleys, but a good smattering of many classic bikes including a handful of airheads.  Everybody was friendly and I struck up a few good conversations.  Even talked to a guy with a very nice Hennarot R65LS... who came with a buddy with an R80ST.  There was a very rare Krauser kitted R100 (Krauser frame, bodywork, who knows what else), an early Goldwing trike with an MG rear end, some Triumphs, Nortons, Indians, etc.  I'll have some pics up soon!

Cool!

Something else you might want to consider is this one, waaay up in  Where-the-hell-am-I-this-must-be-Canada Maine (actually, it is at the Sunday River ski resort in Newry).    It is a "highly civilized" rally in that there isn't any camping, just hotel rooms.   I have gone once or twice and just leave home really early and make a day-trip of it - seeing Dave Percival's private collection of BMWs is worth the trip if you haven't seen it before..

Here's the rare Krauser kitted airhead (I think it's an R100)

11 of these made it to the USA.  Some have a dual seat.  There was a guy with an LS I was talking to whose friend owns this one.  He knows another guy who has 3 of them!  You could buy a couple R90S's or one of these  :o

An R75/5 that rolled the odometer over.  I was a fan of the tank art.

A Jawa Californian, a Pebble Beach-ready Honda 360 scrambler, and a custom Harley that must belong to a carpenter.

This R100RS belonged to a married couple that I briefly spoke with.  It has a rebuilt and hopped up engine:  336 cam, dual plugged, higher compression (I think via taller pistons), electronic ignition... and no pinging!

Also, a very clean hennarot LS with a euro tank
