Boxerworks 2013 National Rally
« on: May 15, 2013, 04:21:55 PM »
Watch this space early next week for tall tales, plausible deniability and photos.

Mike "Bengt Phorqs" Crenshaw and I are rolling out Thursday morning at what Mike refers to as the crack o' dawn -more commonly known as 0700 hours. Destination: The annual Boxerworks Rally.

We will be on the lookout for the famous femme fatale Kiamichi Mountains wood nymphs.  ;D

More likely we will be on the lookout for a tall frosty beverage at the end of a good days ride.  I personally am too old for cavorting with woodland nymphs and prefer something more sedentary like a glass of whisky, neat, and a fine cigar.

But other than that, yes, we hope to regale the folks here with photos and tales of our escapades. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

The League of Independent Gentlemen doing what we do best at the Boxerworks Rally near Big Cedar, Oklahoma.

Mike Bengt Phorqs Crensahw says you'll always remember the challenging rides. If that's the case, then our Boxerworks Rally of 2013 will never be forgotten.

0900 we depart our separate villages and plan to hook up two hours later in Bonham, Texas, for the lengthy leg to Big Cedar.
The cloudy skies at our departure points turn darker as we both head out. Sprinkles turn to light rain which soon becomes a serious downpour with lightning ground strikes and water ponding on the roads. We press on.
The MickeyD's in Bonham shelters us for two hours. That's a lot of Seniors coffee to circulate. Mike's iPhone radar shows the heavy stuff moving off to our east so we mount up and also head east. In no time at all we catch up to this monster wall of storms. We press on.
For the next 180 miles, we ride in often torrential rains. No slack. Lunch in Idabel, Oklahoma, lets us dump 1-2 gallons of water on the Braums restaurant floor but the kindly folks just mop up and say, "No problem. Y'all must be nutz anyway so don't want to aggravate the crazies."

Just north of Broken Bow, and a bit before we hit the mountains, twisties and logging trucks, the rains stops and the roads are dry. Whoopeee... Let's rock the Kiamichis.

Sunday's ride home was dry but the head and crosswinds gusting over 40mph made for another brutal (Mike's descriptor) ride. Phorqs is right -This is one ride I'll never forget. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Link to all the photos -some mine and some Mike's.

We had a great time, made some new friends at the small, but quality rally.  Ken Clevinger pulled out all the stops with the New York Strips, great beverage selection and some pretty darned good BBQ catered on Saturday night.  Great coffee too!  I would only make one correction to Monte's post and that is that the Oklahoma tornados were Monday after we returned on Sunday.  The low pressure front coming down was just sucking all the air out of Texas and made the riding quite challenging.

But like he said, it's one we won't forget and can't wait for the next one.

Thinking about those rallies makes me wonder what's up with Joan and Blueberry, out of somewhere in west WA.

We asked Ken about Joan.  He has lost contact with her and she's kind of dropped out of sight. :(
