I think that's all the pictures. I tried to take more, but the camera memory was either full or the memory chip had some errors on it and it wouldn't let me take any more pictures.
It's too bad too, because we saw some beautiful country on Sunday. We stopped at a park off Hwy 97 for a break after a gas stop. This is very definitely high desert. It was very peaceful and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the rally.
We were going to go back the way we came, but there is a turn off to the Crater Lake Hwy that goes to Medford and we missed it. We ended up going straight and by the time I figured it out we were too far to go back. I was glad of that though as I got to see a place I hadn't been before. The road we took went along the Umpqua River and we ended up in Roseburg.
The Umpqua River is a fisherman's heaven. And the road is a motorcyclist's heaven. Great road! We made a few stops along the river to enjoy the beauty of the area...................oh yeah, and to stretch a bit too. Nice to take breaks. There was one little town but not much else along that area. Lots of Forest Service campgrounds though.
We got to Roseburg and stayed there for the night at a small motel. It's a pretty small town and we didn't see any other motels around. There were a couple of other BMW's parked outside one of the rooms. Looks like we weren't the only ones to take that route out of Redmond. The motel was pretty old. The decor of the rooms was maybe out of the 60's. But it was comfortable and there was a Chinese Restaurant right across the street. I wanted a shower immediately, Larry wanted food. So he got Chinese to go and I took a long hot shower. Ahhhhh.

The next day, after the breakfast put out by the motel, we headed out for Grants Pass. The only way to get there is on the Interstate, so I-5 it was. This is really a great road with wide sweeping curves through the mountains. Beautiful scenery, wide roads, and really not that much traffic. But oh no!

I forgot to fasten my helmet. I don't want to stop along the freeway, and Larry is in front of me. There is another motorcyclist on the side of the road and he stops to make sure he's okay. He is. I take this opportunity to fix my helmet. But they both take off. The way he'll ride I'll never catch up with him. Well, I can try.

I'm really twisting that throttle. I can see him way ahead of me a few curves away. This road is great and I'm finding this bike moves at over 80 mph very well. [smiley=happy.gif] But he's gaining on me and I realize he thinks he's trying to catch up with me.

I found myself laughing in my helmet. Finally I catch up with him. He figured out what happened when he couldn't catch me. Just after I pass him there is a Rest Area and we pull off. What a ride!
We get off the bikes to stretch and have a good laugh about the chased being the chaser. And this is where I meet the other motorcyclists that ride in that know Darryl Richman. That is so funny! We leave there and finally get to Grants Pass and take the first off ramp. Oh! This is where all the motels are. Now I know. We see a Taco Bell and stop for a bite to eat and then head on out for the next stop at Cave Junction where we stop for gas. And Oh! They have ice cream bars. Yummmm. A nice cold treat and rest under the shade and we're off again down the Smith River to Crescent City where we stop for the night. Nice motel, and a Mexican Restaurant right next door. We do find the best places to stay, don't we.

Of course, we meet some other BMW riders staying there.

The next morning we have the motel breakfast again, chat with our new Beemer Rider friends for a bit and head on out down Hwy 101. It is foggy, but not nearly like it was when we came up this road. We stop for lunch at Trinidad, just north of Eureka. Very good food at this little place, but then it is close to Arcata, a university town. We get through Eureka as fast as we can and into the Redwoods. It's still foggy, but there are patches of sun. There is this one spot we ride through where the sun is coming through the Redwoods and the fog with streamers of light. It is so beautiful, but my camera is full and there isn't any place to stop here anyway. This is when a mounted camera would be great to have.
We eventually get to where we can get off the Freeway and get on the Avenue of the Giants. There is no traffic along this road and the Redwoods are so peaceful, the trees are giants. A wonderful part of the ride. But we get back on the freeway as we have a long way to go yet. We have decided to turn off on Hwy 1 at Legget and go to Fort Bragg.
We get to Leggett and have a bite to eat before we head down Hwy 1.
Uh oh. Here we go again. Cont. below
