I'm running a IBA Saddlesore 1000 ride Starting at BMW of Atlanta on the Northwest side of Atlanta and ending in Highfalls State Park.  IF there are any R65's interested in riding this glorious ride then post up here and I'll see if a can include some non-BMWMOGA members on the ride.

Best of luck to you with it!   There is a "Yankee"/New England 1000 miler up around here (I haven't done it) each year and it is a LOT of work for the organizers.  But, they  (and the riders) all have many entertaining stories to tell and really get a kick out of it.   Everyone needs to sleep for a couple days afterwards.

Ah no takers.  (Not so fast ED?)

Prep continues on the 1971 BSA Thunderbolt for the Saddlesore 1000.  Fiting the aux tank to the back of the bike and looking for a low pressure fuel pump to make it feed properly.  Chain oiler installed but not perfected.

A fuel pump on an old BSA?

Yeah.  Can you imagin.  It doesn't siphon too well so I decided to bit the bullit and get a pump.  I pick it up tomorrow at Pep Boys.  It will attach to the tank so I can remove as one unit and put on any bike I have.

I have an e-mail in to AMAL in England about what the max shutoff pressure for the float needle is.

All loaded and ready to go.  Camp chair installed.  If I am sucessful it will only be the 2nd BSA to complete an IBA sanctioned ride.  The first was a Saddlesore 1000 on a 1971 Thunderbolt!!!!

I sense a trend.

OOps I forgot one picture.  The "fuel pump on a BSA" just for Ed Miller.  I found out later that after it started you could shut it off and it would siphon.  Drew about 1.5 amps.  Really efficient!  Tiewrapped tothe back of the tank.

Actually I did 3 years in Beaconsfield from 1966 to 1969 so I actually have history.  My wife and I honeymooned there in 1989.  Three days in London seeing plays and then two weeks driving up to east coast to Edinburgh and then back down the west side.  I grew up watching Dr. Who and on a black and white TV hiding behind the couch when the music came on.  

Funny thing is I don't remember seeing one motorcycle, much less a BSA, when I was there.  Of course I was quite young.  8-)

IBA certification came in the mail today.

There is now an IBA plate on the back of the Thunderbolt.  This certification is only the second in the world!  The first was in Finland!

I'd love to tell the factory but they are long gone.  <snif>
